SEASON 2: NOW A KINGDOM-WIDE SEARCH

There is no stopping for Filipino amateur singers in Riyadh to compete for the first much coveted Saudi Arabia Pop Icon Season 2 title.

Despite of the windy and cold weather condition, Filipinos in Riyadh, students and OFWs, flocked to Future Generation International School, the home of the Pop Icons, during the audition last January 30 and February 12, 2009.

S.E. Productions (SEP) has decided to bring back the much coveted Pop Icon search which was initiated last 2005 to recognize the talents of Filipinos in singing. Now on its second season, SEP decided to adopt a similar criteria and concept. However this season it would be a kingdom wide search.

POP Icon Season 1 was the biggest and most watched local search in Riyadh and it was also the pilot project of SE Productions in singing competition that impelled ABS-CBN TFC Middle East grants the franchise to the group in 2006 for the Search for Middle East TFC Pop Star. Eventually, because of the prestige and impartiality, the representative of Saudi Arabia, Kimverlie Molina, has won the title in Dubai.




Among the aspirants this season are Joppy Balon, RM Corvera, Jonrey Salvia, Dalson Sandoval, Darty Harvey Sarvida, Bobby Cabe, Yuan Galve, JP Aleta,Albert Roman, Danilo De Guzman, Ardon Hatab, Raymund Ruben, Cocoy Patricio, Kenneth Ompoc, Shane Valerie Pastoral, Kenneth Sawyer, Mark Gil Moraga, Mocsel Magandog, Encel Caday, Freddie Leo Rivera, Marriane Ramos, Dallah Gonzalez, Ryan Comandante and Ramilo David.

All the contestants shall undergo training and workshop from competent trainors before they will compete in the first elimination round on March 5, 2009 at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

Among the trainors are: Clovemin Campos – for voice improvement; Ron Jacobe – for personality development and Elmer Aquino for speech development.

During the Grand Finals on May 15, 2009, finalists from Jeddah and Al-Khobar will converge at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh Saudi Arabia for the 1st ever kingdom-wide Pop Icon Season 2 Champion title.

POP ICON Season 2

Riyadh Pop Icon Season 1 (2005)

Special Events Productions (SEP), an accredited community partner of the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia, is staging the Pop Icon competition for the second time after almost four (4) years since the first competition was held in Riyadh in 2005.

Riyadh Pop Icon Season 1 was one of the most well-attended programs in the history of major activities held in the premises of the embassy inside the Diplomatic Quarters where Jamila Dibaratun, student of International Philippine School in Riyadh, was declared Champion.

On its season 2, the search will be kingdom-wide thus Saudi Arabia’s Pop Icon Season 2 champion will be known in May 2009 after two elimination rounds.

The first elimination round will be held on March 5, 2009, second elimination will be on April 24 and the Grand Finals will be on May 15, 2009 at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh wherein finalists from Western, Eastern and Central regions will compete.

A blogger claims that “the Philippine is known to have a healthy support of good singers" and so the expectations of SE to discover more talented Filipinos in the league of Dibaratun, Albert Padilla, Edgar Esmeria, Jennifer dela Cruz, Lowelene Tolentino, Salma Macabangkit and Enrique Aure, Jr, the seven finalists in the first pop icon search.
